1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 using a grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can trigger spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will throw an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync, possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. However the code will not appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It is a little tricky to test because there are different pins on the connector, and each has its own functions. The best way to do it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully operational, it should read around 1000 ohms. Check for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if there are issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a significant reduction in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, 3 were drenched with gazoline the 4th one was dry. When I start the engine, there are no sparks i put tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline leap out, however the 4th one stays shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ i get zero Ohm. So i assume the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it runs fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem persists at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even if it is not plugged in, shows temperatures of -49c. Also i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I'm not certain what to do, but i think i've pretty much eliminated everything else. However, i'm afraid that i might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find a spare in a wrecking shop or parts store. Testing them is easy to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite Ohms.
