Path of Exile Item Upgrading

The most effective way to improve your gear in Path of Exile is through item upgrades. This lets you upgrade your gear without having rely on expensive trades or drops. This article will teach you how to upgrade your gear.

Upgrades to equipment provide an additional bonus to the item's stats. The bonus increases with upgrade component level and rarity.

Components

Upgrade components make your armour and weapons stronger. They can be obtained by fighting off enemies, locating them in spheres of items or buying them from karma merchants. They can also be rescued from equipment with them, or by utilizing a high-tier salvage kit like the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components cannot be destroyed by removing them from the item.

The main function of upgrade components is to enable an item to be upgraded however, they also serve other purposes. They can be stacked to boost the value of an upgradeable item, or they can be used to increase the amount of experience gained from upgrading an existing weapon or piece of equipment. They can also be made to provide extra bonuses. A glyph that has been crafted can increase the chance of upgrading its target, while boost upgrades increase the attack or defense capabilities of weapons.

By selecting an upgrade template from the GUI will allow you to bind it to an item. This will show an upgrade component list that the item can be upgraded to. Alternately, you can use the workbench to select an upgrade template. In either case the item will be upgraded after enough upgrade components are gathered.

Each component is assigned an experience multiplier. This determines how much experience an item gains when upgraded using that component. For instance, organic components have a a higher experience multiplier than mechanical ones. Therefore, it is recommended to upgrade using organic components until you have reached the multiplier of experience for the next level of the weapon or gear, and then move to mechanical upgrades.

In addition to the multiplier for experience every item also has the maximum number of upgrades that it can receive. The number of upgrades available is determined by the rank that can be upgraded and the upgrade type of the upgradeable item. For example, the highest possible weapon upgrade is a weapon with tier 10. The most popular weapon upgrade is a gun with tier 6 and an armor upgrade of tier 5.

Sets

A set is a set of items which all have the same bonus. Each item in the set can be upgraded at least one time, and each upgrade boosts the amount of bonuses that are guaranteed. When you first upgrade an item, its primary stat will be +1. On subsequent upgrades the primary stats will be increased a bit more (for example, +1 to 12+/13+/14+) Each time you upgrade the item with an additional stats is increased randomly.

The upgrade of a weapon can increase the damage base, which could be crucial for certain builds. However, weapons are not upgraded to have a greater maximum defense roll than their regular base. A player is able to play rerolling any item that they acquire during the game, provided they have enough tokens to do so. When an upgraded item gets rerolled, it will be exchanged for the level 1 version of the same item in a different set. Reroll tokens are available at the store for a small amount of in-game currency. They are non-refundable. The new item upgraded will still have the extra benefits of the previous one, but its stats will differ too.

In addition to rerolling items, players can also change the identity of any equipment by interacting with an upgrader NPC. The equipment's identification will change from a weapons to armor or reverse it. Its base requirements and stats remain the same.
