WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item by +3. A random additional substat is also added to each upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees more value in trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less useful for those with lower requirements due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrading upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. The item upgrader mod used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and is accessible at any time to upgrade your gear. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

The cost of upgrades will vary based on the current level of the gear being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item upgrade from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that can be used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased by players from NPCs of item upgraders in a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will show the item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and current item level Upgrade level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a chance to obtain an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through a variety of means that are both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was altered a bit, with several new features added. After a player has upgraded to a certain item level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This is true even if those items come from another set of equipment.

The amount of Valorstones required to upgrade is reduced and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available when certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a few options. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and that each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through content at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in all difficulty levels to obtain lower-tier gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons that have a high difficulty to obtain endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to get their gear up to the highest level possible on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests with care, since they have only one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment available and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly applicable to rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, that will be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all of the slots are full of high-quality gear.
