The Band Toto Asia

Toto expanded its production facilities abroad, and doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. The album was a massive blockbuster, but not without issues. The record companies placed the band under pressure to release the top single or they would rescind the album. Luckily for Toto they did, with the aid of the smash single "Africa."

Toto's musical mastery is the result of their previous experiences. Before joining the group, the members were session musicians for artists such as Boz Scaggs. Steely Dan and Seals and Crofts. Their sonic signature has become the norm for pop music from the 1980s, and has influenced many contemporary artists.

The album begins with a hefty dose of hard rock, with songs such as Running Out of Time and Unknown Soldier showcasing the bands ability to write fantastic AOR songs that slowly get their hooks into your mind. The album also contains more jazzy, slower tracks such as The Little Things and Chinatown. The album closes with Great Expectations. This song blends folk and distortion AOR that could appear completely unnatural, but actually works very well.

After Toto IV, the band's fortunes began to wane. David Hungate left the band to focus on his solo career and the band had several drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the group due to drug charges. The band continued to play with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.

Toto released Isolation despite the turbulence. It wasn't as popular as IV. However, the band still was able to release a chart-topping album in 1992, Kingdom of Desire. The album marked the end of the original Toto lineup and was the first album featuring a new singer, Simon Phillips.

The band has performed all over the globe to an audience of millions, with sold-out shows across Europe, North America, Asia and Australia and New Zealand. The band's repertoire is vast and their catalog has amassed over billion streams on streaming services across the globe. The band's music has been influential to numerous generations of fans.

Steve Lukather has forged a vibrant, intimate friendship with Joe Williams that is flourishing professionally around the globe. In 2018 the duo celebrated their 40th anniversary of Tours Around the Sun with a massively successful global tour. The album with the same title was ranked at #5 on the Billboard 200. The latest tour of the band features their most popular songs and rarely-performed live deep cuts as well as a selection of songs from Lukather's and Williams' individual catalogues.

Line-up

Turn Back, the band's third studio album is a return to a classic sextet format and 토토 꽁머니 an even more consistent and powerful effort that had a more grittier edge. The more edgier sound of Turn Back reflected the growth of the band. The drummer Bobby Kimball's increasing proficiency was evident in the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. David Paich's keyboard skills were also sharper, more complex, and less derivative on previous efforts.

After touring to promote their album, the group recorded an Amsterdam live performance which was released on Eagle Records as a 2-CD set titled Falling In Between. A new studio album followed shortly after, and the group embarked on a long-distance tour in support of the album. During this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began looking through old tapes and demos to find songs that hadn't been recorded prior to. It was completed in 2001 as a duo album titled Then & Now. It was the band's first album that did not contain a single song titled "A". The album also contained a previously unreleased track titled "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth album, Old Is New was an uncommercial success and vocalist Williams was suffering from laryngitis, which affected his singing abilities. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming duties were replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.

Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the founding members of Asia were in England in the beginning of 2006 to discuss the possibility that the group could be reformed. The lineup, with the exception of Howe who was working with Yes at the time, was renamed Toto XIV. They toured extensively.

In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The group also had an appearance by singer Michael McDonald, and a backing singer named Mabvuto Carpenter.
