BMW-2020-New.pngHow to Replace an audi a3 key replacement G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located near the edges of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails the ECU will display the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync and possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It's a bit tricky to test because there are different pins on the connector and each has its own functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is operational, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. Look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll i had a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or injectors aren't firing any more. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, three were drenched with gazoline the 4th one was dry. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector Programming Audi Key and when i start the engine with no sparks, the ones with gazoline jump out. The fourth one remains shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I assume that the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem persists at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I don't know what to do. I think I've ruled everything else out. But i am afraid I might have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is the same as the G4 and they both work in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or at a parts store. It is easy to test them - just put your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that needs to know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make decisions about timing of the fuel injectors, etc. In order to do this it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you are experiencing issues with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause an engine shut down.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate gearbox speed counter and a gearbox which shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire in gear. If you experience any of these problems, it is most likely that your sensor is failing and requires replacement key for audi a4. The good news is they are very cheap and readily available, especially if you're looking at an Bosch unit like ours. Alternatively, the GM version of this unit is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for numerous problems in your car. It's an essential component of the transmission of your audi key fob, as it transmits information to the ECU regarding how fast or slow the car's engine is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to malfunction and other audi car key replacement cost components to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49, via an uncolored wire. The ECU then processes this signal to regulate fuel, timig and boost as well as sends it on to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer. You can also check continuity between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. There should be a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms between these points. This is a common feature across the Audi Key Copy 80-100-200-RS2 range, from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 DU You may also find them in wrecking yards.
