Item upgrading allows players to enhance their weapons and equipment with new affixes, boosting its base stats or adding additional perks. To upgrade an item, a player has to have it in their inventory and have access to the kiln.

Items with weak bases, like rings can be upgraded to stronger bases. Items with bases that are strong, such as the Titans of eth have little changes in their stats.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, trinkets and gathering tools, providing an attribute bonus or extra effect when the equipment is in use. They can be purchased from vendors, retrieved in loot from enemies, or gotten from chests or missions. Certain upgrades can also be equipped with special cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level to upgrade.

To upgrade an armor, weapon or other Best item upgrader in the game, players will have to select it and then click the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will show on the right-hand side of the screen a preview showing the expected upgrade stats and the components or materials required for the upgrade.

Leveling

Path of Exile's upgrade system is different from the previous versions in a few key ways. Gear is now divided into tracks and items can be upgraded a certain number of times before they're "leveled out." The costs for upgrading increase with each level, however the materials needed do not. This allows players to concentrate their efforts on a few items and maximize the effect of those items, rather than dispersing upgrade costs across multiple pieces.
