Turn Back, the band's third studio album it was an attempt to return to the classic sextet structure, and a more consistent, stronger effort with a harder edge. Its edgier sound was indicative of the maturation of group and included drummer Bobby Kimball's increased ability on the drums and a more confident, mature vocal delivery from singer Joseph Williams.
