The Roomba 980 performed well in our tests on carpets and hard floors. It scored highly on carpets with low pile and on mid-pile. It did a fair job of picking up pet hair, but it struggled with extremely thick and long pet fur that was stuck together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the top performing robots that vacuum and mop in our list despite the slight limitations. It's also less expensive than other top-of-the-line models. It's still packed with a variety of features that we'd expect to see in a top-of-the-line model however, it doesn't come with all the fancy apps or smart home integration are found in other top contenders.

The iRobot Roomba is simple to set up and start working immediately. After removing the battery pull tab and yellow bin insert from its undercarriage, all that you need to connect it to its Home Base docking station or a wall socket, hit its big "Clean" button and let it get to work. It will automatically return to its dock when it has run out of battery or becomes full of trash. There are also indicators at the top of the bin that let you know when its bin is empty, when it is in need of recharging or when it loses Wi-Fi.
