Three Wheeled Buggies

Whether you're looking for a buggy to run around in or a nifty stroller to tackle strolls around the neighborhood, three-wheeled buggies provide great mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver even in tight areas.

If you are looking for an easy ride in your baby, opt for models with 360deg front wheels with swivel. They are susceptible, however, to punctures. Be prepared with an emergency repair kit.

Frame made of sturdy material

Figures have just been released revealing that the three-wheeled buggy - that noughties symbol of more money than wisdom - is in steep decline. They have been replaced by four-wheelers that can handle a wider range of terrain, while also looking elegant and easy to push.

The basic principle is that the larger the wheels are, the easier it will be for your buggy to deal with bumpy and rough pavements. The larger wheels both rear and front, make it easier to move and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tested this buggy with the newborn baby as well as a child who was 3 years old and found it very robust. It was able to handle cobbles, grass and rough pavements as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. She said that it felt sturdy to push, and very stable on difficult terrain. The tyres, that are inflatable and require to be pumped regularly, have built-in suspension. This was extremely comfortable for my kids.

The shape and size of the seat is a further factor to think about. You'll want it to be big enough for your child's comfort. You will also need it to recline for them to lie flat. Certain three-wheel buggies have a full lie-flat option while others will only allow an adult facing one.

The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road and walking in muddy areas. This buggy is ideal for a single child as early as birth, and can be adapted to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for babies and toddlers until age four and comes with a bumper bar, raincover, improved 5-point harness and a spacious padded seat unit. Wheels with a larger diameter

Larger wheels means that your buggy will be more stable on uneven terrain, which is ideal for buggies that are off-road. They also make it easier to manoeuvre the buggy through tight spaces. Certain three-wheeled buggies have rotating wheels on the front, which help you navigate tight corners. Others are designed for running and have fixed wheels that lock for greater speed and stability. This is also useful if you bump against the kerb or a tree. The front wheel will lift slightly to avoid hitting it.

A majority of 3 wheel twin stroller wheel pushchairs come with air filled tyres which means they can handle many different terrains and are much more adaptable than 4-wheelers. They are also lighter. They are prone to punctures, so you'll need to have a repair kit and spare inner tube in your arsenal.

Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and Venicci Carbo lux are some of our favourite 3-wheelers. These buggies, as per MFM's Kath, have larger wheels that according to her "perform well on grass, gravel roads and market town cobbles" and are able to go up or down kerbs. They also have a suspension that according to Kath "smooths out bumps with great efficiency".

The downside of having larger wheels is that they make some buggies quite broad and may struggle to squeeze through narrow spaces. This is a problem if you're using it as a jogger or you need to to get through doors that are narrow when out and out and about. The majority of models come with small folding options that permit you to take off the front wheels and store them more compactly.

Easy to manoeuvre

One of the main benefits to a three-wheeled buggy is that it can be much more maneuverable especially with a child on the way. The way they are built ensures that the front wheels turn at a whim and are incredibly maneuverable, making them ideal for difficult terrains such as parks, cobbles and bumpy pavements as well as dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the 3 wheel baby buggy-wheeler with her toddler, and she said: "The Terrain is a joy to maneuver in rough terrain. The swivel wheel front was especially useful." I was also awed by how well it dealt with kerbs using the hand-operated break. It was extremely stable when for descending or on a rough terrain."

The only drawback to this incredible maneuverability is that the larger wheels of the 3 wheel buggy can sometimes make it difficult to fit into tight spaces. This is something you need to be aware of when you live in one of the cities. If this is an issue then a 4-wheel buggy may be a better option for you.
