World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can increase the value of weapons, armors and rings. They also boost extra bonuses such as PvE damage and crit chance.

For example a weapon that has the upgrade template that ends in % will gain 3% attack damage every time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases with the item's level.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, armor, and weapons in order to give them a boost in stats or an extra effect. They can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors or trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to devices that have slots. The item must be at least upgraded to blue level before a component can be applied. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used one time; they cannot be applied multiple times or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade items non-amulet legendary and ascended equipment, as well in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's applied to (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Glyphs

When the player upgrades an item to a higher level, the original item is replaced by a new item of the same kind. This means that the same armor piece will become an weapon or shield once upgraded. Premium items have different upgrade requirements than standard gear--for instance, they may require fewer sowels, but more minerals and erons.
