WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the Best item upgrader is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They can be bought by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool with the help of button, which displays an image of the item upgrades when it is upgraded in the event that the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For instance weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items at the start of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only available via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit as well as an issue.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a specific level for an item upgrader kit in an armor slot, upgrading further items to that same item level will cost less, even when they are part of another set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW players have a few options. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that Crests are only available to equipment of a certain rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulties to get equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons that have a high difficulty to obtain endgame gear. Utilizing these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one usage, so it's important to use them properly. For instance, it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrade equipment available and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to make. This is especially relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, that will be able to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
